Wartsila’s Nacos Platinum Integrated Navigation Automation Control System has been selected for a series of three ‘mega-class’ container vessels being built for French ship owner CMA CGM at the HHIC-Phil yard in Subic Bay, Philippines. The contract with Wartsila was signed in August.

The Wartsila Nacos Platinum platform is based on an Ethernet-based network and covers all aspects of integrated bridge and machinery monitoring and control systems. It combines all relevant navigation and automation tasks under a single HMI (Human Machine Interface) umbrella. The system uses modern ring topology and provides the flexibility to navigate, control, and monitor the vessel from different multi-functional operator stations.

“Wartsila has a leading global position in providing state-of-the-art integrated automation, navigation and control systems for mega and medium sized container vessels. This order offers further evidence of this, and we are both pleased and proud to be cooperating with the owners and HHIC in this important project,” says Maik Stoevhase, head of the Automation, Navigation & Communication business area at Wartsila.

Wartsila has earlier received orders for propulsion and other equipment for these same vessels. The scope of supply includes a Wartsila X92 2-stroke main engine, Wartsila Airguard aft seals, Sternguard forward seals, Sternsafe bearings, and Line Shaft bearings. Delivery of the Wartsila equipment is scheduled to commence in May 2016.

This fully integrated system provides outstanding features in terms of usability, scalability and network by means of a single common hardware and software platform. It is based on a common software platform for navigation and automation applications, including Dynamic Positioning, and is designed in accordance with EN ISO 9241-210 (Ergonomics of human-system interaction). These cost-efficient systems are easy to install and require minimal operator training. The Platinum series offers the entire scope of ship control systems, hosted on a shared set of work stations using a common network.
