After working more than 50 years in the Oil and Gas industry J.Servais wrote the book ‘For The Love Of Oil’, to avoid human mistakes that resulted in major disasters such the Piper Alpha or the Gulf of Mexico.

Everything is in the making for the next disaster as a large group of experienced people left or are leaving the Oil & Gas industry due to the market down turn. Within one or two years we shall need these people back on the job due to a recovering market.

Most people will never return because they found a job elsewhere and refuse to work again in this fluctuating industry.

A large group of inexperienced people will enter the industry and follow theoretical training lessons but lack the practical experience of how to plan and carry out drilling related operations.

Previous attempts to avoid major disasters have focused on complex risk analysis but human mistakes still took place and will occur again if no changes are initiated to ensure that people know how to plan, drill, test and produce wells in a controlled and visual manner.

While technical innovations are continuously introduced within this industry a visual and controlled planning system along the lines as indicated in the book is urgently needed but this requires a combined and never used efforts of all parties involved.

The following is a short introduction of the book ' For The Love Of Oil' as little is known about the work and people searching for oil and gas around the world:
Rob was born in Holland just after the war when jobs and food had to be shared with too many and people tried everything to survive. His family was poor and everyone worked long hours for food and bare essentials. As a young boy he accepted any job to support his family until he was given a chance to work on drilling rigs.

He experienced how tough it is to be accepted by a drilling crew, worked hard during more than twelve hours a day under sometimes-severe weather and dangerous conditions.

After years of searching he found the love of his life, started a family and describes his path from roustabout until becoming the person in charge of drilling operations including some of the most devastating oil field disasters created by human mistakes.

His career leads him from drilling rigs into head office management where he is confronted with bribe and intrigues. Managers raised with honest and fair business ethics are replaced with white-collar criminals acting above any law and the can’t touch me mentality. Their only aim is to get rich in the shortest possible time by manipulating the stock market and destroying well established companies.

Rob is a witness of how his company becomes a target and is sold, whereafter he and his family are transferred to the land of opportunities.

Reducing human mistakes was always one of his most important goals to save lives and avoid environmental disasters. He was of the opinion that apart from new technology and difficult risk assessment solutions, an operational orientated initiative should take place. Can he find a future and sufficient support to avoid loss of lives or another drilling disaster created by human mistakes? This is the subject of the book"‘For The Love Of Oil" The book is available as:
