The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has carried out an audit of the management and operation of helicopter operations on Transocean Spitsbergen. The audit was conducted from 25 to 27 January 2023, with the assistance of the Civil Aviation Authority Norway.
Objective
The objective of the audit was to ensure that the responsible parties are working systematically to reduce the risk associated with helicopter operations at Transocean’s offshore facilities. In addition, we wanted to verify the management of helideck operations on board Transocean Spitsbergen.
Result
One non-conformity was identified concerning person weight and the capacity of rescue equipment.
In addition, two improvement points were identified, concerning:
Emergency lighting for operation of dual agent hose reel
Helideck maintenance
On the helideck, 6 non-conformities/observations were identified.
What happens next?
We have asked Transocean to report to us on how the non-conformity will be addressed and for their assessment of the improvement points identified. The reply deadline is set at 17 April 2023.
