Ready to Zero Carbon with the green route in Northern largest power generation source

The 30th Mae Moh Half Marathon, Lampang Province’s big running event, impressed runners across the country with its “Ready to Zero Carbon” concept and green route through the largest power generation source in the northern region.

On October 15, 2023, Lampang Province, in collaboration with the Lampang Chamber of Commerce and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) – Mae Moh, held the Walk and Run Race in Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, the 30th Mae Moh Half Marathon, to win the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy. Mr. Chumlak Kanpetch, Deputy Governor of Lampang Province, and Mr. Charan Khumngeon, EGAT Deputy Governor – Generation, jointly opened the competition which was participated by a large crowd of people at the multipurpose yard, Mae Moh Public Relations Building, EGAT Mae Moh, Lampang Province.

The Mae Moh Half Marathon has been organized for 30 consecutive years. This year’s concept, Ready to Zero Carbon, aims to raise awareness of runners and the public about environmental conservation to reduce carbon emissions, a factor which causes greenhouse gas. The event has also driven Mae Moh District and Lampang Province toward the Low Carbon City. A total of 2,754 Thai and foreign runners joined the race which was categorized into 21 km half marathon (912 persons), 10 km mini marathon (1,035 persons), and 5 km fun run (807 persons). The event highlights included an EV minibus providing shuttle services for runners from various points in Mueang District to the event area, to build new experience and reduce carbon dioxide emissions according to the concept “Ready to Zero Cabon.” Moreover, the food containers used in the event were made from eco-friendly materials, while there was waste segregation throughout the whole event. With full road closure for the runners’ safety, rule and service standard control, as well as first aid and medical care with the medical director who has been trained according to global standards, the Mae Moh Half Marathon was organized to be certified by World Athletics.

The green running route for the three categories allowed the runners to experience a view of the power generating source of the northern region amid pleasant atmosphere and the beauty of Mae Moh Mine, Huay Ped Reservoir, Mae Kham Reservoir, and Mae Moh Power Plant. All of these can provide the new experience of sports tourism for all runners.
