Kassel/Lubmin. Together with its partners NEL Gastransport GmbH and OPAL Gastransport GmbH & Co. KG, GASCADE will provide what is expected to be the first LNG link to the German gas network. Before the end of this year, the transmission system operator plans to build a pipeline measuring a few hundred meters in length that will connect a first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) to land as part of the “Deutsche Ostsee” LNG project.
The pipeline will connect the FSRU to the landing station near Lubmin with a feed-in capacity of approximately 6 GWh/h. Liquefied gas is to be converted on the FSRU into a gaseous state. The regasified liquefied gas can then be transported from the Greifswald landing station via the OPAL and NEL gas pipelines and EUGAL to Germany and Europe. “Through this we are supporting the efforts of the government and society’s wish to diversify supply sources as fast as possible,” says Christoph von dem Bussche, Managing Director of GASCADE and NEL Gastransport. Andreas Wendler, Managing Director of OPAL Gastransport adds: “As a result, we can already contribute in the coming winter to support security of supply for Germany and Europe.”
GASCADE has worked flat out to prepare the necessary contract and planning documents. The applications are to be handed over shortly to the approval authority, the Stralsund Mining Authority. “We are happy to ensure the speedy completion of the project. When commissioning will take place depends, however, in this complex project on many factors,” says GASCADE project manager Stefan Petter. “Nevertheless, we are optimistic that we will be able to complete our part in good time.”
